The fabric pills a LOT. I knew this before buying the sweatpants but the fit is good. I own tens of sweatshirts and sweatpants in this California Fleece fabric. The same thing happened with all the items made with this fabric. You have to wash once - do NOT wash with any other item. Wash separately. Tumble dry low. Again separately otherwise all your items will come out with this fiber. I have a lint remover roll and go through about 12 sticky strips of the roll for 1 sweatpants after the first wash. I have to use another 12 sticky strips after the 2nd wash. After about 4-5 washes, once most of the loose fiber is out, these feel good. Just be prepared to do this exercise if you choose to purchase any California Fleece item from American Apparel. I wish they took care of this problem with keeping the fabric 100% cotton.
